M3 Youth Band

M3 is the organisations youth band and welcomes youth players from across South East Wales. They rehearse on a Sunday from 17:30 - 19:00 during term time. The band has won countless gold awards in competitions and is proud to have such a talented and dedicated membership.

The band every year has to say goodbye to members as they move on in their lives away from Cardiff.

Many have progressed onto music college or into musical careers with past players now teaching music or members of military bands. Other choose to continue their playing as a hobby in others bands in the organisation, the region or university.

However, the band is also able to welcome new players each year as they move up from M4 to continue to gain confidence and skills.

Conductor Profile: Carol Flanary Davies

Carol hails from “up north” and grew up playing with the salvation army and local brass bands in Yorkshire. She moved to Cardiff to study music at Cardiff University and decided she liked South Wales so much she stayed. After training as a teacher Carol is now a successful primary school head teacher in the Rhondda Valleys.

Carol played the soprano cornet for many years but is now back on Bb cornet, she has played with a number of bands in South Wales over the years, including Mid Rhondda, Treherbert and our own M1, but is currently playing solo cornet with Tylorstown.

Carol is an amazing youth band conductor bringing endless energy and experience to the job.She conducted Mid Rhondda youth band for a number of years before moving to M3. She brings the best out in every player and gets the band working to their strengths to produce great performances year after year.

She is always on hand to step in to conduct other bands when needed and even tried to get comm brass doing dance moves once – the result was interesting!
